Catfight

A modified Stableford (sometimes called a "catfight") is a golf scoring format that encourages aggressive play by rewarding good scores with significant points and limiting the penalty for poor play. Unlike traditional stroke play where the lowest score wins, the goal in Modified Stableford is to achieve the highest point total.

All players are flighted. Handicap Index is required.

After Double Bogey you pick up your ball and go to the next hole, this format aids with the pace of play.

Key aspects:

• Point System: Players earn or lose points on each hole based on their score relative to par. The better the score (e.g., birdies, eagles), the more points are awarded. Scores significantly worse than par might result in negative points.

• Encourages Aggressive Play: The Modified Stableford system is designed to incentivize golfers to take risks, as birdies and eagles are significantly rewarded, and the penalty for a bad hole is capped.

• Speeds Up Play: Players can pick up their ball after reaching a certain score (often a double bogey), as they can no longer score points on that hole and won't lose additional points, speeding up the pace of play.

• Focus on Points: The scoring focuses on accumulating the most points, unlike traditional stroke play which focuses on the fewest strokes.

Yes. All players must have a GHIN number. See FAQ regarding how to obtain a GHIN number. This allows us to flight the competition.

To obtain a GHIN (Golf Handicap Information Network) number, you need to join a golf club that utilizes the GHIN system, which is typically facilitated by your local Allied Golf Association (AGA).

Once you join, the club will register you with GHIN, and you'll receive your GHIN number, which is essential for tracking your handicap and posting scores.

1. Join a golf club: Many golf courses, both public and private, are authorized GHIN clubs. You can find a club in your area through your local Allied Golf Association (AGA) or by searching online on the USGA website.

2. Establish an account: After joining, the club will register you with GHIN. You'll receive a GHIN number, which serves as your unique identifier within the World Handicap System (WHS).

3. Create your GHIN profile: Use your GHIN number and the email or last name you provided during registration to create a profile on the GHIN website or app.

4. Post scores: Once your profile is set up, you can use your GHIN number to post scores from completed rounds played at any USGA-affiliated golf course.

5. Establish your Handicap Index: After posting five 18-hole rounds, you will establish a Handicap Index. This number reflects your demonstrated playing ability and is used to adjust scores for handicaps when playing with others.

River North Women's Golf Association uses Golf Genius and back up analog score cards.

Golf Genius can be used by players to enter scores, view leaderboards, and access tournament information. Players typically use the Golf Genius app on their phones, accessing it via a GG ID provided on-site. After each hole, the designated "Master Scorekeeper" for the group enters the scores, which are then visible to other players on their devices.

1. Accessing Golf Genius:

• Mobile App: Players will need to download the Golf Genius app from the App Store or Google Play Store.

• GG ID: The group will be provided with a unique GG ID for the round. This ID is entered into the app to access the specific group.

• Sign-in: The Master Scorekeeper will log in using their email and password.

2. Score Entry:

• Master Scorekeeper: Only one player in the group (the Master Scorekeeper) should be responsible for entering scores.

• Hole-by-Hole: After each hole, the Master Scorekeeper enters each player's gross score.

• Saving Scores: Scores are saved after each hole, and the app automatically advances to the next hole.

• Correcting Scores: If a score needs to be changed, the Master Scorekeeper can tap on the incorrect score and enter the new one.

• Previous Hole: Players can navigate back to a previous hole, but the current hole must be saved first.

3. Viewing Information:

• Leaderboards: After completing all 18 holes, the app displays the leaderboard, showing the scores of all players in the tournament.

• Tournament Information: Players can access other tournament details, such as tee times and pairings, through the app.

• Other Features: The Golf Genius app may also offer features like real-time leaderboards on TVs or mobile devices, according to a Golf Genius training video.

Yes! Prize money is awarded to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place golfers in each flight.
